There are many things that parents can do to help their troubled teens from home. Helping troubled teens requires a lot of energy, but I’m sure that most parents are willing to make the sacrifice. Many outside programs are available to help troubled teens with severe issues, but there are some things that parents need to be aware of in order to help their children with their problems while in the home.

One of the main things that causes teens to be troubled is the lack of self-worth. Parents can help their teens overcome this by pointing out the strengths that they have. In addition to pointing them out, parents should do all they can to help the child feel that they can and should pursue their own strengths and talents. When a child feels that they are good at something of value, it increases their feelings of self-worth and dissipates those feelings that create the need to be defiant and troubled. Also, when a young person can realize that they can do something well, they are more inclined to succeed at finding their role in life, which may include important choices in the future such as the right career etc.

Another thing that can be done besides helping troubled teens discover their strengths is to help them find what they are passionate about. This will help them initiate goals for themselves and will give them direction in their lives. The hardest part when trying to help troubled teens discover their passions is to give them space. Young people need space to feel like they can really find their abilities and see the positive things they can do with their lives.
